My experience is creatively and technically varied, as I have worked on many productions over the years. I was on staff at ABC News for 4+ years in the mid 1990's editing for Primetime Live and other newsmagazine shows. I have also worked for Sony, Disney, MTV and the like cutting everything from music videos to DVD packages. In addition to television work I have a devoted interest in nature and landscape photography. My passions have led me to travel to Australia, Bali, Thailand, Borneo, the Cook Islands and 8 countries in Africa to name a few. I have always had a love affair with the rainforest from an early age which is probably why I ended up shooting this documentary. I also felt it was time to step out on my own, using all my talents as an editor/photographer, etc. to tell a story that I was passionate about.
After drinking Ayahuasca in 2006 and having a profound experience, I knew that I had found the story that I wanted to tell, which is the story of Ayahuasca and why people from all over the world come down to the Amazon to drink it. Regardless of my 20+ years experience in the film and television industry, I am relative newcomer to the world of documentary making. I decided that I didn't want to wait for funding (considering I might never get it) and bought a bunch of books, watched a ton of documentaries and educated myself on how to make a proper doc and how to tell a compelling story, one I hope has never been told before. Like many other aspiring filmmakers and documentarians I decided to roll the dice and fund the whole thing myself, as I felt very strongly about the subject matter. For the past 16 months or so, I have been splitting my time between Los Angles and Iquitos, Peru shooting and editing my film.
